Youth Hoops has developed a comprehensive basketball skills curriculum built around five core areas of player development:
Ball Handling • Shooting • Offensive Moves • Defense • Inside Play
Each course runs approximately two months and includes six individual training sessions.
Each course places special emphasis on one specific area of the game. For example, during the Ball Handling Course, players spend additional time developing ball control, change of direction, change of speed and the ability to handle the basketball under pressure.
However, we believe great basketball players need a complete skill set. That's why every course also incorporates elements from the other four areas.
In other words, we continue developing the complete player while placing additional emphasis on one particular skill.
Training sessions feature teaching stations designed to provide players with quality instruction and plenty of hands-on repetitions.
Players will work on important individual offensive and defensive skills including:
Ball handling
Shooting
Passing
Offensive moves
Screening
Finishing
Man-to-man defense
Footwork and movement
Our goal is simple: teach players the proper techniques and then give them the repetitions necessary to improve.
After individual skill development, players begin learning how those skills fit into team basketball.
Players will be introduced to concepts such as floor spacing, passing and cutting, dribble penetration, movement without the basketball, offensive rotations and decision-making.
Sessions conclude with controlled play, where players have an opportunity to take what they have learned and apply it in game-like situations.
We don't want players to simply perform drills. We want them to understand when, where and why to use their skills when playing basketball.
Every session begins with a “Quote of the Day.”
Coaches use the quote to briefly discuss important lessons such as communication, effort, discipline, teamwork, self-improvement, confidence, accountability and what coaches look for in players.
Our goal is not only to help young athletes become better basketball players, but also to help them develop habits that can benefit them away from the court.
