Babies Class

It’s never too early for music.

New 4- week BABIES classes this year!  Looking at your new little person, you've probably asked yourself, “What’s going on in there?” You’re not alone. We can help with some insight into what babies’ brains are up to, and how making music with them is one of the best ways to support brain development. NOW is the perfect opportunity to learn a ton about infant and child brain development, and gain a fun and dependable toolkit of hacks to make sure you're letting the most light into this window of your child's early life. We are offering two 4-week collections for babies making all of this goodness available to families regardless of new baby leave arrangements (join one or join both).

Babies noisily make their grand entrances into this world. At first, all those cries might not sound like music, but they’re really the first signs of a baby’s innate musicality. Just as they must babble to develop language, babies have to “babble” in music to learn to sing. Little ones are born with a natural capacity to make music, whether they’re cooing, squealing, crying, or, eventually, giggling and babbling.

Just as we are born with this potential to make music, we’re also wired to receive music. Studies have shown that even the youngest babies (even just a few days old) can respond to changes in tempo, distinguish differences in volume and melody, and sense when a song is about to end. It’s in these instances that we can see with our very own eyes our children’s ability to hear, respond, and react to music.

Because the early months are so important, Music Together® offers our Babies Class, where parents and other caregivers can learn as much as possible about music development in infants. Meet other parents of newborns and learn fascinating and useful music activities you can recreate at home with your baby.

FAQ

What age are the infants in a Babies Class?
Infants range from only a few weeks old to several months in this program. Most babies are non-mobile for a majority of the semester. If your baby is crawling before the start of the semester we recommend you (and any infants older than nine months) register for one of the Family Classes. Feel free to contact the office to discuss: 704-449-6761.

My baby is under 7 months, should I take a Babies Class or a Family Class?  What’s the difference?

The Musical Parenting class is structured in much the same way as a Family Class. In both classes your teacher will lead you through a variety of activities, facilitating fun and creative ways for you to interact musically with your baby. The main difference lies in parent education. Because the infants are non-mobile, there is a calmer energy in this class which allows the teacher more opportunities to explain the ‘whys’ behind the ‘whats’ and to point out emerging musical behaviors.

At what age should I start class with my baby?

Now! Babies learn music the same way they learn language; by being immersed in it. Just as it is never too early to start talking to your baby, it is never too early to start singing with your baby.
