Mixed Age Music Together® Classes in Fairfield County

Each week in Music Together® Mixed-Age Classes at Creative Family Rhythms, babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and the grownups who love them® gather for 45 minutes of fun-filled family music time.

Children learn through play. And playing with music is what we do! Each class of 6-12 families includes singing, creative movement, with activities ranging from lap songs and lullabies to instrument play with shakers, bells, drums and more (with child-friendly instruments, of course). It’s so much fun you won’t realize just how much learning is taking place!

You’ll take home physical and digital access to recordings of the award-winning music used in class, along with an illustrated songbook and other resources.

You’ll discover new ways to play with music all week long, and even if you don’t think of yourself as a great singer or dancer, you will be supporting your child’s music-learning and overall development.

Child development researchers discovered that grouping children of different ages in one class creates an environment of family-style learning where young children thrive. With this knowledge, Music Together pioneered the idea of a mixed-age music class for families almost 30 years ago. The model is still cutting-edge, as families discover how much richer the experience is than in a class that is segregated by age. In a mixed-age class, everyone is supported to participate at their own levels: babies vocalize, wiggle listen, and observe; toddlers actively play and experiment; and preschoolers build confidence as they emerge into classroom leaders. This mix of ages, stages and learning styles makes for a rich and supportive learning environment for everyone, including the grownups!
There are many fun classes for young children, many designed mainly as entertainment experiences. The Music Together program goes a step further; it’s research-based and intentionally designed to support each child’s growth over time. It starts with our music—playful and accessible for children but also engaging for the whole family. That matters, because children feel it when the grownups are really engaged in class. Because classes build on one another over time, families experience deeper learning and growing musical confidence from week to week. And because you take the music and songbook home with you, the songs become the soundtrack of family life—at home, in the car, at bedtime, and in the middle of ordinary days. That’s when you really start to see it come together—the confidence, new skills, and a love of music.
