General FAQ

What ages is this class for?
Our mixed-age classes are designed for children from birth to age 5 and the grownups who love them®

What is my role as a parent or caregiver in class?
Sing, move, and have fun with your child! You are your child’s most important music teacher right now, and your participation helps your child feel comfortable, engaged, and ready to learn.

Is my child too young for music class?

Not at all! Children are musical from the very beginning. Learning music is a lot like learning language—children absorb it naturally by hearing it, feeling it, and experiencing it with the grownups they love. That’s why early childhood is such a wonderful and important time to surround your child with singing, movement, rhythm, and playful musical experiences.

What if my child doesn’t participate right away?
That’s completely okay. Children participate in their own way and at their own pace. Some jump right in, while others watch, listen, and take it all in before joining more actively.

What should we wear to class?
We will be singing dancing and moving! Please wear something comfortable for class. Our classroom is also a shoes-free space, so please remove shoes before entering. Socks or bare feet are welcome.

Can siblings attend class?

Yes! Siblings under 8 months are welcome to come along in a carrier at no additional cost.

Once a sibling turns 8 months old, they will need to be enrolled in the class in order to participate. Enrolled siblings receive 50% off tuition.

Please note that the sibling discount applies only to siblings living in the same household. It does not apply to cousins or extended family members, since each enrolled family receives their own Music Together® materials and resources to use at home.

Can we try a class before enrolling?

Yes! We’d love to welcome your family to try a class. Please visit our schedule page or contact us to arrange your visit.

What is included with tuition?
Tuition includes your weekly class, access to the music and materials used in class, access to the Music Together app, and resources to help you continue the music-making at home.

Can we join after the session has already started?
Yes! If space is available, families are welcome to join after the session begins. Tuition will be automatically prorated based on the number of classes remaining in the session.

Do you offer makeups?

Yes. If your family needs to miss a class during the Summer 2026 session, you may schedule a makeup in the other available Sunday class time, as space allows.

Please mark your child absent through the makeup class page before the class begins. Makeup classes must be scheduled through your online account.

Because summer classes are currently limited to Sunday mornings, makeup options may be limited. At the end of the summer session, any missed classes that were not made up during the session will be reviewed, and eligible makeup credits will be applied to your account for use toward any future Joyful Hearts Music session.

Makeup credits are not refundable or transferable.

What if my child is having a hard day?
That’s okay. Children participate in many different ways, and you are always welcome to step out for a moment and rejoin when your child is ready.

Where are classes located?
Classes are held inside Golden State Ballet Academy at 6338 Riverdale St, San Diego, CA 92120, near San Carlos, Allied Gardens, Grantville, Del Cerro, Mission Valley, La Mesa, Tierrasanta, and College Area.
